The event, co-hosted by Intel and Yonsei University, gathered a diverse group of participants, including Intel Korea, Intel Partners, Yonsei University Hospital and University staffs, to explore the impact of Intel technologies on healthcare in the Asia Pacific region.
Calvin's presentation centered on "Co-designing Transparent Acceleration of Genomic Data Processing and Heterogeneous Hardware using Intel CPU and FPGA" highlighting the transformative potential of FPGA card accelerated solutions in healthcare. One of the key takeaways was the integration of Intel's oneAPI for FPGA, a revolutionary software programming model simplifying application development across various computing architectures, particularly FPGAs. This streamlined approach enables developers to harness the full potential of FPGAs without grappling with hardware-specific coding, fostering quicker innovation and optimization on Intel platforms, including compatibility with frameworks like TensorFlow and OpenVINO.
During the workshop, Calvin conducted a demonstration using the latest Intel 4th generation Xeon processor in tandem with the Intel Agiliex FPGA card. The demo showcased the power of FPGA card acceleration in genomics analysis, particularly for Alignment, DupMarker, and Sorter. Notably, the FPGA-accelerated solution completed the task in just 4 minutes compared to 14.5 minutes without acceleration, achieving a remarkable 3.5X acceleration in the analysis process.
