Riding The Wave of Genomics Sequencing Revolution

TAIPEI, TAIWAN, Dec. 30, 2020 – Do you know what is Genomics Sequencing? The human genome consists of a complete sum of DNA: a code for cells to know how to function and behave. The four bases of A, T, G and C are codes that are the building blocks of DNA. Genome sequencing is the process of determining the order of the DNA bases: the complete DNA sequence of an individual. This genome sequence can be seen as a genomic “fingerprint” that is unique to each individual. While humans share 99.9 percent of identical genetic make up, it is the 0.1 percent of genetic variation that holds accountability for the prediction, presentation, diagnosis and treatment of diseases amongst individuals. The identification of such variances is possible through genome sequencing.

Market Prediction for the Demand of Genomics

The first human genome sequencing began for the Human Genome Project was produced over a 15-month period. The estimated cost for generating the genome draft data is around $300 million. After the high throughput sequencer technology was developed, there is a steep decline for the costs of DNA sequencing while the demand for DNA sequencing is skyrocketing. The current cost for one genome analysis is 1000$ per genome (NIH), and the amount of genome data is doubling every seven months. The average price to sequence a whole human genome will decrease to an estimate of $200 by 2024.

According to market analysts, the compound annual growth rate in the field of genomics is projected to be 19.5% CAGR over the next seven years and can reach up to a market value of 82.60 billion dollars by 2027. This level of projected growth is unprecedented. Genomics is at the precipice of a true paradigm shift that has the potential of completely changing and revolutionizing the field of medicine. Over the last two decades, the field of genomics has become far more approachable and not nearly the financial burden it was at its proliferation. Genomics has this vast potential to change how life threatening illnesses are diagnosed, and by proxy, treated. And with those revolutions in the field, lives will be changed with technology leading this new charge towards technological and medical advancement over the next projected decade in the field.

WASAI is part of the Genomic Sequencing initiative

It can not be stressed enough that these are uncannily challenging times that we as a global community have been facing as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Genomic sequencing is truly a critical component in the production of vaccines and treatment options. We here at WASAI truly believe that our products can help in this global endeavour, and we are committed to ensuring that our global expansion is done both diligently and as quickly as possible. We welcome any collaborators to experience the difference that WASAI Lightning can bring in this time that is defined not only by the terror that is COVID-19, but also the future that we truly believe in where genomics is more widespread and this technology is at the forefront of saving lives.
